My life is a work in progress. The past year has proven that some things need to leave and some things need to be revived. This spring has been the season of finally taking care of my health by doing the little things. I have gone to the dentist and eye doctor for the first time since the COVID-19 lockdowns happened.
I am happy to report that while I did need some work, it’s not bad. Considering it’s been almost 7 long years, I am quite proud. One cavity, two crowns, and a pair of reading glasses. The eye doctor said it was natural, as we age, to need reading glasses, so I shouldn’t feel too bad. I get my final crown on the 1st of April.
Also, a work in progress is the home and yard. I was not the main provider of lawn care in the past 7 years. The main provider has left. Now I am finding myself in a pickle. I have to learn how to use my lawnmower. Thankfully, I am well-versed on my tiller. I’m sure they are similar, so I expect I will figure it out soon enough.
I went through my seeds tonight and feel reasonably stocked. I haven’t planted yet, because I wait for anything that is frost sensitive until after April 15th. Planting in the spring is always a gamble, because it can suddenly turn hot, as it has lately. Any cool-weather plants wilt when it does that. Instead, I will focus on late spring and early summer plants, as well as a fall garden.
Also, I am considering what livestock I should have. I used to always have a few chickens, but I need a new coop and run. I prefer quail as I can handle them from egg to dispatch on my own. My quail cages need a lot of work, too. However, feeding them can be an issue as finding their food can be hard. Whatever I choose, they will be smaller animals and no more goats. Goats were fun when I was younger and able to chase down escapees. I am not going to do that.
I have given two loads of household goods to Goodwill. I anticipate more will be given away this week. I have a huge load of romance novels if anyone wants them!
